Online Ceramics trip to see Tim Andrews turned into a potters’ outing. On Easter Saturday morning Peter Ward from Online Ceramics, picked up slipware potter John Pollex at his studio in Plymouth, together they drove across Dartmoor to Penny Simpson’s studio in Moretonhampstead. Just before they reached Penny’s they stopped off for tea at Powder Mills Pottery where they shared a drink with resident potter Joss Hibbs. Whilst they were there, a pair of earthenware cups by Carole Glover caught John’s eye, and he promptly purchased them.
They went on to Penny’s where they spent an hour or so looking at her work and enjoying her hospitality (Penny had cooked a fantastic fruitcake and a noodles lunch). Penny and her assistant joined Peter and John on their visit to Tim Andrew’s.
Finally, once they all reached Tim’s they spent the afternoon catching up – Tim and Penny had worked together in the Dartington Pottery 30 plus years ago. Peter then selected eight great pieces of Tim’s work for www.onlineceramics.com, Tim is pictured holding one of the pieces, a large saggar stack with red raku base.
