Matt Horne

Matt Horne’s crystalline ceramics continue and enrich a tradition of such work in Britain, and one that has long played a significant part in the studio pottery movement. His dishes, vases, bottles and other items make one think of certain Chinese forms, perhaps of some of the shapes and surfaces of British Art Pottery. However his pots are clearly brought into the 21st century with his own fresh and individual interpretations, suitably simple and restrained, but with sensual and opulent surfaces. These are unashamedly decorative pots, a generous embellishment of one’s living space, and a refreshing antidote to the minimalist, sometimes more puritanical elements of contemporary ceramics. Matt Horne trained at Aylesford Pottery, Kent, where he got a thorough technical grounding in clay, before setting up a workshop at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, in 2008.
