Tricia Thom studied ceramics at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, and then consolidated her experience through her varied teaching career, and a period of making in a production pottery in the Highlands. Now based in Edinburgh, she concentrates mainly on porcelain and has developed a wide-ranging and engaging approach to the material, her forms including energetically decorated moon jars, and elegant and character-full jugs and teapots with long looping handles. Tricia’s forms are very distinctive, full of individual quirks that adds much to their life and energy. With shapes she has made her own, and their freely abstract and gestural marking, these pots have a vigour and generosity of personality that really invites use and handling, objects which help to focus and enhance our domestic lives.
