Tim Andrews is one of our best known makers of raku, producing strong sculptural forms with considerable technical command and knowledge. Smoke-fired, his pieces are both thrown and handbuilt, his palette generally confined to black and white or understated colour clips. Andrews’ pieces include vessel-based forms (bottles, jars and pedestal bowls) as well as purely sculptural pieces. There is a rich linear rhythm about much of his decorations, offset by the crackle and smoky qualities achieved in firing. Tim Andrews was apprenticed to David Leach in Devon before attending nearby Dartington Pottery Training Workshop and eventually returning to share Leach’s studio. He is now based in Woodbury.
