A distinguished graduate of Harrow School of Art, Terry Bell Hughes, along with his wife Beverley, worked with Denise and Rosemary Wren in Surrey before setting up in Llandudno Junction. His eclectic functional stoneware is partly influenced by Oriental wares and traditional British country pots. Committed to Harrow’s functional ethos, Terry’s thrown and hand-built pieces are full of character, for example his very distinctive teapots with their playfully looped handles, quirky spouts and conical lids. With their translucent ash glazes and slips and cut clay relief additions, Bell Hughes’ pots have a strong sense of history and of the materials used, and are amongst the most generous and resourceful you will find.
