Lara Scobie’s clear-cut slip-cast in parian clay with its crisp simple forms and fresh abstract decoration would add a frisson to any shelf or dining table. Large leaning cylinders, bowls, tall narrow jugs, simple beakers, all her shapes are energised by their asymmetries and the geometric, often organic rhythms of her surface drawing. The forms have a quiet freedom of finish and marking that gives them considerable softness, all the more attractive to handle and use, and giving each piece individuality and character. Lara trained at Camberwell College of Arts and Edinburgh College of Art. She lives and works in Edinburgh.
