East Meets West – Online Ceramics Exhibition at The Aldeburgh Gallery

East Meets West brings together two ceramic artists from the far western edge of Cornwall, across the country to show their works in the quiet light of Aldeburgh. Curated by Online Ceramics, the exhibition explores the dialogue between form and landscape, surface and structure – where wall-mounted pieces and sculptural vessels speak in texture, shadow, and earth.

Richard Phethean: is an acclaimed throwing specialist working in richly toned red and black earthenware. His pieces explore contour, profile, and balance, assembling cut clay elements into forms that feel at once architectural and playful. Rooted in function yet sculptural in presence, his work reveals a deep sensitivity to rhythm, structure, and touch.

Craig Underhill: creates slab-built stoneware vessels that function as painted landscapes in three dimensions. Drawing inspiration from the Cornish coastline and sea-worn horizons, his surfaces carry layered markings and rich abstract textures. Craig was among the first ceramicists to join Online Ceramics in 2010, and his work continues to reflect a strong connection to place and material.
