Harriet Coleridge

Harriet Coleridge is a particularly versatile potter who has been based at Ewelme, Oxfordshire, since 2001. Happily difficult to categorise, Harriet has explored a wide range of work produced in gas, anagama, electric and soda kilns, drawn to the varying qualities of form, texture and colour that this has allowed. Her techniques have extended from excellent majolica pieces to boldly elemental shapes enlivened by flame and fly ash, from lively and vivid decoration to quieter, more subtle surfaces. After training with Alan Caiger-Smith at Aldermaston, she established successive studios in Berkshire and New Jersey, USA, before moving to Ewelme. This is work that doesn’t settle into an easy routine. Harriet’s adventurous and enquiring approach means we are often surprised and always enriched by the result.
