Oval bowl

This slab-built, salt-glazed dark oval bowl was handcrafted by ceramic artist Ruth King. Formed from stoneware clay, the bowl was finished with sprayed slip before undergoing an initial bisque firing in an electric kiln. Ruth then re-fired the piece in her gas kiln, introducing salt at the peak of the firing process to create its distinctive surface and rich glaze effects.

The bowl is signed and stamped by Ruth, and she is pictured holding the piece. In the image showing two pots together, this bowl appears on the left.
